To me, the main problem with this 'plan' is the staged withdrawal. 'staged' is israli BS for indefinite occupation, then they weasel their way into annexing/settling the territory a few years later. look no further than the west bank, syria, lebanon. or the last gaza ceasefire.

So the captives are released immediately then there's nothing to compel them to complete the withdrawal.

They have no choice but to take this plan because the world and its leaders have failed the Palestinian people. Perhaps none more so than those Arab states. Never understood the pro Palestine side and their reluctance to hold Hamas accountable. I think it's a pretty fair deal given current battlefield conditions and war aims. Hamas thinks they can isolate Israel but unless a massive, flashy, world changing event is caused by Israel I don't see U.S. aid ending, ever. Israel cannot hope to actually absorb Gaza without a complete genocide which would destroy their economy. The best either side can hope for is a peace that gives them both part of what they want.

Do I think Hamas will go for it? No, not in a million years and not if you gave every single member ten million dollars. Their war aim is the complete destruction of the Israeli state and the United States just won't let that happen, not to mention bigger, better nations have tried and they failed every single time.

I don't like it.

It denies Gazans a democratic say in this process.  Instead it brings in foreign people, governments, and institutions to come and govern Gaza.  Gazans should not accept this.

It tells entire political parties that they are not allowed to participate in government because they are "terrorists". When we all know the word "terrorist" is just code for a party who is against American and Israeli interests and is willing to fight the occupation. The people of Gaza should decide who does and doesn't get to govern Gaza.  Not Donald Trump, Israel, or other foreign parties.

It has a double standard.  Gazans are forced to completely give all their arms and defensive capacities, and to disband their militias and militaries.  While Israel gets to keep its army.  Gazans cannot have self determination or even democratic control over their own territory if they cannot even have arms and an army to defend their borders.  To ask a people who have been bombed to smithereens and have lost as many as 200k of their population to a genocide to completely disarm themselves is egregious.

It does not explain what the consequences will be for Israel if they violate the treaty, which they will inevitably.

There's lots of talk about rebuilding Gaza, who pays for that?

Well, Israel has killed 65,000 Gazans so far, most of them women and children. Hamas has 20 hostages, so Israel commits to releasing the remains of 300 Gazans? What about the other 60,000?

You know how when you're younger you draft up a plan to make the most epic hotwheel track and how you're going to get all these tracks together that you don't have yet, and then you forget to include your parents in on those plans so without them buying the new sets your plans go no where. I feel like this is that situation. 

It would be a great idea if. Maybe everyone involved was agreeable to it. The first problem is you have a lot of international partners who have to take on a lot of responsibilities including potentially housing radicals. Which if you don't want them your partners don't want them. Second a large part of this is Hamas has to agree to disarm and withdraw, and dismantle, and then idk evaporate? How do you get it so Hamas disbands and never engages in public life again in any form. Even if you disband Hamas eventually the members will renengage in society and run for office. Plus you're asking them to go away because they are inconvenient for you. Not probable no matter how much killing continues. 

All in all it's a great plan if everyone is onboard, I don't think everyone will be onboard since they didn't negotiate this plan, they dictated this plan and then assumed everyone would agree. Angry guys willing to die to see you die don't work by dictate.

Honestly not a bad proposal. Unfortunately I don’t think Hamas will ever accept it, but this is a remarkably forgiving deal. Amnesty for Hamas members is far more generous than I think anyone could’ve expected. They should take the deal, although I doubt they will.

Yesterday, Trump revealed his 20 point plan for peace in Gaza.  

This plan includes:

 - Deradicalizaton of Gaza   
 - A end to Israeli military operations in the area    
 - Release of all the hostages    
 - A plan to build Gaza back up.  

And several other points.

It sounds like a vert good plan to me. It’s a plan…light on details but it has potential, all things considered. I have doubts about Hamas’ agreeing to it or abiding by it long term even if they did. In fairness, I’m not sure if Netanyahu would have been nearly as enthusiastic if he thought there was any chance of Hamas agreeing. 

But I’ll give the administration credit, they’ve put forth a plan that could work and they’ve got buy in from important regional states (Turkey, Egypt, Qatar, and Israel) which is notable in that part of the world.

Honestly pretty impressed with this proposal. I certainly have my doubts about how much of this will actually occur (if its even accepted) but on paper, looks good.

My only major on-paper concern is the talk of economic development (points 10 and 11). Obviously the Gaza economy willl need a lot of assistance to get on its feet. But the wording seems like it could very easily lead to economic dominance of Gaza from outside influences, with investors, corporations, and nations looking to exploit cheap land and a desperate people for a quick buck.

It’s a risk they have to be willing to take. It’s no different than Hamas diverting funds and infrastructure materials to rockets and weapons.

So if bad actors were to take advantage of the Palestinian people. It’s either they vote in their oppressor and not have a pot to piss in, or take the risk of that happen and having livable conditions with clean water, proper sewage systems and modern infrastructure.

And to the points being made that Hamas more than likely wouldn’t accept the deal, I’d also argue that the Palestinian people would follow Hamas’ lead.

I find it important to note that this is a plan to end the current war — not one to create a lasting peace. That said, as a peace treaty framework, it's not awful. But these two points should probably be an issue.

For a transitional government to work, I think it will need to be backed by UN or foreign peacekeepers. There is too much bad blood for the IDF to police a peaceful Gaza.

This pair of points also suggests an intent by Trump (as transitional government chair) to exploit a rebuilding Gaza to try and create another Dubai or Doha under his control. This is something he has expressed a desire to do before, and it seems unlikely to be for the benefit of the Gazan people.

His legacy will be cemented as one of the greats of this goes through but even if not this is proposal with Arab/muslim support that should still be acknowledged.

This is a lose-lose for Hamas. If they accept, they lose leverage and bet everything on Israel’s word (which, given the history of broken agreements, is a huge gamble). If they refuse, the world will see them as obstinate terrorists who “don’t want peace” strengthening Israel’s justification for more violence. Israel, meanwhile gets to frame itself as the reasonable side offering peace. It’s a straight optics war, as much as a physical one. Hamas is boxed into either being dismantled or delegitimized. The peace plan I strategic as all hell. Whoever created it, is smart. I doubt Trump made it up.

Personally I want this deal to work, and I want Israel to follow through on their end of the deal after Hamas gives up their arms, but it's hard to trust either side.  We all know that Hamas is a terrorist organization, but a lot of the officials in Netanyahu's government are as extreme as it gets.  The former head of military intelligence, Aharon Haliva, is on tape saying it's okay to kill Palestinian children and that 50 Gazans should die for every one Israeli victim.  So many pro-Israelis deny that there is mass starvation and extreme shortages of food in Gaza.  But Israeli officials have been openly calling for and explaining how Israel was going to block all aid, electricity, fuel, etc.  on Oct 9, 2023, Yoav Gallant said, "We are imposing a complete siege on Gaza. No electricity, no food, no water, no fuel, everything is closed.” Israel Katz, the minister of defense, said on April 16, 2025, "no humanitarian aid will enter Gaza." Then after months with no aid entering and the obvious starvation being reported around the world, pro-Israelis want to deny the extreme food shortages, and create this narrative that the whole world is lying and hates Israel. Just listen to Moshe Saada, Likud Knesset member, who said in April 2025, "I’m interested in starving the Gazans and imposing a siege to the max. Whoever wants to leave will leave to a humanitarian zone that we will administer.”  If you couple the rhetoric from Israeli officials with the blockade that is in place, along with all the information making its way from inside Gaza to the masses around the world, it's definitely more believable that the starvation and food shortages are happening, than it is that it's all a lie and the Israeli officials were just making reckless statements that did not reflect the reality.  Local medical staff and volunteers from over 100 countries have witnessed this starvation.  Independent journalists, NGOs and humanitarian organizations, satellite data analysts and open-source investigators, academic and research institutions, have all captured the reality of life on the ground in Gaza, and it shows mass hunger.  Gaza was already facing food shortages and had a fragile healthcare system, Israel took advantage of these conditions and all but destroyed the healthcare system and pushed 75% of the population into phase 4-5.

The deal does not lead to any concrete steps toward statehood. It was not drafted with any input from Palestinians. It does nothing to address settlement expansion and settler violence in the West Bank. As it is now It would give major Zionist influences control over Gaza. Mass protests abroad are not happening for one simple reason, most people outside do not trust that the Trump plan is genuine peace. To them it looks like terms drafted in Washington and Tel Aviv, not in consultation with Palestinians. When you start from an imposed framework you do not get a peace movement, you get suspicion.

The same dynamic played out with Oslo and later with economic peace proposals. Palestinians on the ground and their supporters abroad saw settlements expand even while peace talks were on. That history teaches them that what is branded as peace often locks in the status quo.

So it is not that the world is cheering for Hamas. It is that people who care about Palestinian rights do not want to march in support of a deal they see as one sided. Protest movements tend to mobilise against power they view as unjust, not in favour of plans they see as theatre.

If the deal were built with genuine inclusion and guarantees for a real Palestinian future you would see protests demanding Hamas take it. As it stands people do not see it as peace, just a pause dressed up as progress.

Protests work in mobilising public opinion about recognised states (such as Israel) in order to pressure their own governments.

Is there an example of a mass protest in American history to encourage a battered and bombed and starved group to accept the unfavorable terms of a capitulation?  Look, I think Hamas should accept the terms because Israel is already committing genocide, the world hasn’t done enough to stop Israel and Israel shows no signs of wanting to stop.  But let’s not pretend that it’s natural for Americans or others to rise in protest against Hamas to encourage a surrender.  

People who love and support Israel have a strange concept of peace.  A peace plan to them is simply a plan that encourages an end to the current round of violence.  There’s never a plan to address the critical issues that create an environment where extremism and violence take place.  Peace isn’t just the end of violence.  In life, peace occurs in peaceful conditions.
